PET Scans Ontario
Privacy Contact

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has appointed Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) to coordinate and manage uninsured PET scan services across Ontario. Cancer Care Ontario's PET Scans Ontario program uses an evidence-based approach to ensure appropriate access to PET scans in the province.

The PET Scans Ontario program provides an information technology (IT) solution (“PET Scans Ontario web application”), which enables two or more health care providers (e.g. physicians and PET Centres) to use electronic means to share necessary clinical information about a patient receiving a PET scan.

The PET Scans Ontario program also collects data pertaining to PET scans for the purposes of planning and management for the delivery and expansion of PET scan services in the province. The program’s objective is to help patients avoid unnecessary testing by having PET scans available only for situations where it has been shown that patients can benefit from the test.
